The chief executive of Cardiff Airport will discuss the implications of returning to a former place of work at a special event this month.

Jon Horne, who took over the running of the airport earlier this year, was the airport’s managing director between 2001 and 2007, before moving to other senior posts in the aviation industry.

He now has overall responsibility for Wales’ biggest airport, which sees more than a million visitors a year. The Welsh Government bought the airport in April this year and appointed Mr Horne soon afterwards.

He will give a rare insight into his thinking behind returning to the airport, when he speaks at an event organised by Leadership & Management Wales, the Welsh Government’s centre for excellence for leadership and management development.

‘An Audience with Jon Horne’ is part of LMW’s Challenge series, and will take place at the airport on November 14th. The event is free to attend, but places are limited and must be booked in advance.

“Chief executive of Cardiff Airport is one of the most high-profile and highly-scrutinised management positions in Wales,” said LMW’s director Dr Barrie Kennard. “Jon’s decision to take up this challenging role, six years after leaving, surprised some observers.

“It will be fascinating to hear his thoughts on how going back can sometimes be the right way to move forward.”

The Challenge is an interactive leadership masterclass, organised and hosted by LMW for current and aspiring leaders and managers in private sector businesses in Wales.
