Rhondda-based community news service,  Rhondda People, will hold a
public meeting on 3 December, 7 – 9pm in the bar in the Park and
Dare Theatre, Treorchy. We would like to encourage local people to
come along and find out how they can make the news. Everyone is
welcome and refreshments will be served.

Rhondda People  is run by a team of community members who have met every week
since the beginning of October to create the hyperlocal news service.
The group aim  to promote a positive picture of the area and to shine
a spotlight on the great things to see and do in the Rhondda.
The public meeting is open for anyone in the community –
individuals, groups, clubs and businesses – with news and events to
share.
Rhondda People  Editor Tyler Mears, who is also a Journalism Studies
student at Cardiff University, says: “The Rhondda has always been a
place where a durable sense of community spirit radiates through the
terraced streets. It is for this reason that I feel so strongly about
setting up a community news service in this area. Having grown up in
the Rhondda, I believe that this would provide the local people with a
platform to discuss and debate issues and events that are relevant to
our Valley.”
The meeting on 3 December will be chaired by Leighton Andrews AM in
his role as Honorary Professor of Journalism and in support of a
community project in his constituency. The project is supported by
Cardiff University’s Centre for Community Journalism in partnership
with National Theatre Wales, following their Treorchy residency in
October 2013.
If you would like to come along to the meeting on 3 December, please
email scarbroughh1@cardiff.ac.uk or call tel:02920 208207 – everyone is welcome.

Rhondda People is supported by Cardiff University’s Engagement
Projects.
