Welsh players served up some excellent performances at the British seniors indoor championship at Dudley, with two of them taking championship titles.

Alistair Alexander (Cardiff ) beat Andrew Hutchinson ( Yorkshire)  7-5 6- 3 to take the Men’s O50s singles title, and Chris Hill  (Abertillery), won the Men’s 055 doubles title with partner Nigel Mann (Maidenhead).

Hill, the Tennis Wales player of the year for 2013, is now expected to move into the British No 1 and World No 10 positions in the next International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings.

Other notable results included Ann Brown (Prestatyn) reaching the Ladies O60s doubles final and the quarter final of the singles.

Rose D’Sa (Newport) reached the 055s singles quarter final, Mike Harpin (Bridgend) reached the men’s O50 singles quarter final, and  Peter Bosher Jones  (Penarth) progressed in the O75 men’s singles draw before going out in the quarter final.

“This is a fantastic set of results from some of our top senior players,” said Peter Drew, chief executive of Tennis Wales.

“Tennis is one of the few sports that can be played competitively at all ages. New and accessible ways to play mean it’s never too late to take up the game, and these results are a real inspiration.”
