Cardiff Metropolitan University is offering students the opportunity to combine university study and performance tennis.

With support from the Tennis Foundation and Tennis Wales, and working closely with its own LTA performance club, Cardiff Met Tennis Academy; the university is aiming to create an exciting, dynamic performance environment.

The university programme is led by head coach Chris Lewis, a former top 500 ATP world-ranked player, who has played at Wimbledon and represented Wales in the Commonwealth Games. Since retiring he has worked with some top British senior players including Johanna Konta (current GB number 3) and Josh Milton (current GB number 13).

Cardiff Met Tennis players are offered:

•           A comprehensive weekly tennis and strength& conditioning programme

•           Weekly British University and Colleges Sports competition

•           An annual competition plan

•           Regular coach and player meetings

•           Organised competition trips

•           Access to further Sport Science support

The university’s performance director of tennis, Ellen Jones, said: “’The facilities and coaching team at Cardiff Met are second to none, students have a fantastic opportunity to continue their tennis career while gaining a university education in the Welsh capital.

“Our future plans include a bi-annual training trip abroad, and students who select one of the sports degree courses have the option in year 2 to spend a term in a US or Australian university where they could further their tennis experience.”

Cardiff Metropolitan University is made up of five academic schools: Cardiff School of Art & Design; Cardiff School of Education; Cardiff School of Health Sciences; Cardiff School of Management; and Cardiff School of Sport.
