Hundreds of people of all ages have tried tennis this summer, thanks to a series of special events around Wales.

The Great British Tennis Weekends saw 53 venues in Wales hosting 118 events, providing a range of free tennis opportunities.

We’ve seen events from Rhyl to Rhiwbina, Haverfordwest to Holyhead and Neath to Newport,” said Tennis Wales’ national participation manager, Pam Griffiths.

Parks, leisure centres, traditional clubs and schools all supported sessions for children, teens, and adults of all ages. We have seen more than 1,500 new people participating in Tennis this summer. All volunteers and venues have done a great job in positively promoting the easily accessible and achievable ways to play the game.

We are getting the message across that tennis is a game for all ages and comes in all forms – touch tennis, cardio tennis, mini tennis, and more. It’s a great way to have fun and get fit.”

Tennis Wales also had a presence at the Royal Welsh Show for the first time as part of the sports village.

We saw upwards of 200 people per day from all over Wales,” said Simon Clarke, regional participation manager at Tennis Wales. “We ran participation sessions and helped people identify where they could play – including Carmarthen, Anglesey, Gwent, and Powys.

It was an incredibly fun and exciting event to be part of and a great opportunity to continue the positive promotion of the game across Wales. There were lots of promising conversations about where people could get involved in the local area and great to see so many families playing together’’.
