Newydd Housing Association is asking local people to name a new housing development at the former site of Gene Metals, Kingsland Terrace, for a cash prize.

Acquired by Newydd in March 2017, these brand new homes are being built on the Gene Metals site near Treforest Football Club by contractors Jehu Project Services in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Welsh Government.

Treforest lies south east of Pontypridd to the west of the river Taff and has a historical connection to the Crawshay family who established major tinplate works in the area in the early 19th century.

A cash prize of £50 is available to the competition winner for naming Newydd’s development of 44 brand new 1, 2 and 4 bedroom apartments, bungalows and houses for affordable rent. The name should encompass the whole scheme and needs to be based on a local connection or a historic interest.

To be eligible to win the naming competition you must live in Rhondda Cynon Taf and entries need to be received by Friday 3rd November. Your entries can be emailed to Julia Hopkins on julia.hopkins@newydd.co.uk or sent to Julia Hopkins, Newydd Housing Association, 5 Village Way, Tongwynlais CF15 7NE.

Local people with an interest in renting these homes must register with Homefinder RCT, the local housing register managed by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council. The properties will be advertised for affordable rent on the Homefinder RCT website during winter 2018.
