Eagerly anticipated new app that solves tax headaches for freelancers through to final 32 pitches of Virgin Media Business competition.

Launching soon, TAXO’D is a new app built by freelancers, for freelancers. It’s been designed to take away the hassle involved in calculating tax based on income and expenses. It will even allow freelancers to file their tax returns within the app. This week, TAXO’D will go against 10 other UK startups aiming to win the chance to pitch to Richard Branson through Virgin’s #Voom: Pitch to Rich 2015 competition.

London, UK. June 2015:TAXO’D is a multiplatform tax app for a self employed worker that calculates a live tax bill total based on business income and expenses. TAXO’D can also automatically file the user’s annual tax return from within the app without having to use the HMRC website. TAXO’D will be coming to iOS in the coming months and there are also plans for Android.

#Voom: Pitch to Rich 2015 is a nationwide competition run by Virgin Media Business to discover the country’s most exciting and innovative businesses. Virgin Media Business is offering an unprecedented £1m business accelerator prize fund to support three winning businesses – whether it’s just an idea, a promising startup or a company with huge growth potential.

The competition is the latest Virgin Media Business initiative to support small, growing UK businesses. This has included the introduction of specifically designed broadband services and the creation of free expert resources to help entrepreneurs make the most of the opportunities created by the digital world.

From an initial 2,408 entries, TAXO’D made it through the initial round of public voting and into the final 32 pitches (and the final 11 in their category, startup) after impressing a panel of Pitch to Rich judges. There is a £10,000 cash prize as an incentive for UK voters in the final round of public voting, which ends on 26th June ahead of the live finale where 9 finalists will pitch live.

TAXO’D’s founder is Dave Legion, a designer and animator from Haverfordwest, South West Wales, currently based in Richmond via Cardiff. Dave created the app after years of struggling to manage his own freelance business finances and now has a small Cardiff based team developing the app.

TAXO’D founder, Dave Legion, said: “It took me four years to convince myself I was the right person to do this. As I’m not an accountant, I am a freelance designer – I could build a simple solution to manage the headache of freelance tax from the end user perspective. I know first hand the headaches caused by tax and trying to make sense of the HMRC website. TAXO’D aims to solve that.”
