Angelic Upstarts bring their firebrand fury to Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff on Friday, February 19, 7.30pm. The punk power of the Upstarts first exploded on to the scene in 1977. As the 70’s moved in to a new decade there was a period of commercial success. A number of albums and singles scored in the UK Top 60, but whatever came out of the studio it was always surpassed by a stage stomp that elevated their  Kids on the Street cry to an even more dynamic dimension.

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since those far away days but original lead singer Tommy ‘Mensi’ Mensforth is at the heart of the 2015 operations. The Upstarts wed politically charged stances with the cornerstones of both an anti-fascist spine and  hard core socialism central to the story. A fiery four piece are on tour and a date in the Welsh capital will also witness as a support slot from local lads The Oppressed who have also been espousing calls for racial unity since 1981. Since a 2009 reunion the act that is led by vocalist/guitarist Roddy Moreno has developed a fresh wave of popularity while also retaining their faithful following.
