If you may have been left feeling a little ‘Let Down’ by the short run of UK dates accompanying A Moon Shaped Pool earlier this year, then there may still be a way to satisfy that Radiohead live fix this Summer….
The Easy Star All-Stars are proud to present: 10 years of RADIODREAD.
Celebrating a decade since the release of their maverick re-interpretation of Radiohead’s seminal OK Computer album, the highly regarded reggae outfit will return to the UK for a slew of live shows that will revisit the classic LP.
The news comes as the band ready a special 10 year anniversary edition of the RADIODREAD album for release on 12 August 2016, which will include their first new material in nearly 4 years – a cover of the Radiohead hit ‘High And Dry‘.
Featuring guest vocals from Grammy-winner Morgan Heritage, the new track sees the collective rekindling their passion for their Oxford heroes. Equipping their trademark complex arrangements and dynamic, dub-heavy moments in the mix, the cover is a solid reminder of the band at their perception-warping best.
Garnering praise from fans, critics and, crucially, Thom Yorke and co. themselves, the ambitious RADIODREAD album saw the Easy Stars completely re-imagine Radiohead’s 1997 opus OK Computer track-for-track with Reggae, Dub and Ska flavours.
Taking on board a stellar cast of guests including Horace Andy, Toots & The Maytals, The Meditations and many more, the band’s radical re-inventions saw them stun with ‘No Surprises’, make ‘Fitter Happier’ sound more productive, and even provide a convincing case for ‘Paranoid Android’ to just chill out.
The upcoming anniversary shows will see the band play a wealth of tracks from the RADIODREAD album each night, including some never-before-heard live exclusives, plus favourites from the band’s other well-received tribute albums: Dub Side of the Moon (Pink Floyd), Lonely Hearts Dub Band (The Beatles) and Thrillah (Michael Jackson).
Reflecting on the success of the RADIODREAD project, Lem Oppenheimer a co-founder of the Easy Star label and manager of the Easy Star All-Stars said:
“Radiodread is one of the finest moments in the history of Easy Star All-Stars, so it is really exciting and fun to be celebrating 10 years of its existence… Some of our most popular and best songs – like “Karma Police” and “Let Down” – are on there. It also was received fantastically by fans and press right off the bat, “
No strangers to the UK live circuit, Easy Star All-Stars make their keenly anticipated return with an extensive run of headline shows
, kicking off on 1st July with a date at Sheffield’s O2 Academy 2 and run through to the 23rd July, where the band will wind up with a show at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth. See full dates below for details.
Expressing the New York-based band’s love of playing the UK, Lem added:
“The UK is like a second home to us. We’ve been playing here since 2004 and have had so many different experiences along the way. We’ve done so many different great festivals from our three stage/three day triumph at Glastonbury in 2009 to Bestival to Beautiful Days and everything in between. The band has been through floods in Wales and riots in Birmingham and is always ready for more exploration of the Kingdom.”
The gigs will also showcase fellow Easy Star Records band New Kingston, who will support at a number of dates. With a strong following over in the States already, expect confident songs and a heady mix of roots, dancehall, R&B styles as the band make their UK live debut.
