Contract extension is a boost for Welsh business.

Private sector businesses in Wales will continue to benefit from expert support for developing their leadership and management skills throughout next year.

Leadership & Management Wales (LMW), the Welsh Government’s centre for excellence for leadership and management skills, has announced it will continue to be funded throughout 2014.

“This is excellent news for Welsh business showing the importance of management and leadership in these difficult times” said Wyn Prichard, of CITB Wales, who is chair of LMW’s advisory board.

“It shows that Welsh Government recognises the vital importance of higher-level leadership and management skills to the future success of Welsh private sector business and Wales as a whole, and the value of LMW’s contribution.”

Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology, Ken Skates, said:

“I am pleased that we have been able to extend the Leadership and Management Wales contract to provide a Centre for Excellence in Leadership and Management in Wales.

“Delivered through the Welsh Government’s Enhancing Leadership and Management Skills (ELMS) programme, with support from the European Social Fund, the Centre for Excellence provides invaluable support to private sector organisations throughout Wales to develop their leadership and management skills, offering real potential for them to thrive and grow.”

LMW provides a range of free services to private sector businesses in Wales, including events, research, and guidance on training, and a wealth of online resources. It also provides quality assurance for leadership and management training providers.

From its head office in Cardiff Business School, it covers all of Wales. It has reached more than 2000 businesses at its events, and received in excess of 7000 visits to its website, since launching in September 2009.

LMW director, Dr Barrie Kennard, said: “Many companies have experienced a really significant return on their investment in leadership and management training and development, and this funding extension will enable us to continue to work with businesses and our other stakeholders to build further on those successes.”

LMW’s services are available to all private sector businesses in Wales. Information is available at www.lmw.org.uk or by phoning 029 2087 6560.
