Kraftwerk are renowned electronic pioneers and their adventure that commenced in 1970 still resonates today. These German rhythmic robots have touched the careers of many artists-and, not necessarily from the same scenes. This band has cast their wands over the work of: David Bowie, Brian Eno, Joy Division, Gary Numan, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Simple Minds, The Members,  Spizz, Afrika Bambaataa and Zoot Woman amongst a colossal cast of characters. The aforementioned lustrous list is enough to warrant personal attention let alone alert a vast array of other musical fans.

Therefore, an interesting tale is one that explains: How and where this sonic story began, the influences that led to the formation of this act, other scenes of the time, the vast and expansive terrain of krautrock, the years  that followed, critical and commercial credits and debits plus changes in the world of music.

‘Kraftwerk and the Electronic Revolution’ is a 180 minute DVD account that goes right back and the research is first class with a series of interviews with key players. The opposition to the swinging, singing, mellifluous, mainstream  60’s became evident in a selection of German cities and a flux of diverse performers appeared. One such act was Organisation and from this quartet came forth the seeds of Kraftwerk. Around this era we are also introduced to the likes of Tangerine Dream, Cluster, Harmonia, Can plus Amon Duul and its offshoot amongst others. What becomes clear is that early 70’s Germany was a healthy, vibrant and multi-faceted nation of avant-garde alchemists.  The longevity of Kraftwerk and their iconic standing places them at the fore of fortitude because despite trends and the passing of several decades they are still a sought  after property around the globe.

‘The Man Machine’ momentum of Kraftwerk has had an immense effect on post punk to dance with a lot of other genres reaping rewards-and, it is highly likely that you will also benefit from a viewing of their ‘Hall of Mirrors’. Get on board the ‘Trans Europe Express’ and enjoy a remarkable ride.
