Born in Aberdare, South Wales, Nashville-loving, Welsh-rooted, soul-fuelled Laura Evans is delighted to announce the release of her new single Take Me Back Home (Aberdare)

Laura Co-wrote this song in Nashville with writers Tim Lee Jones & Leroy Powell of successful Americana band ‘Whiskey Wolves of the West’

“ I was so excited to write with Tim, Laura says, “He had written one my favourite songs by Shelly Fairchild called ‘Mississippi Turnpike’ so when we all got in a room together we started talking about my home town and where I grew up. We laughed as I explained I’m from a very, very small town the South Wales valleys called ‘Aberdare’ I talked about what it was like growing up there and then a few hours later the song was written! It was very important that the song had a country soulful feel about it and lyrics people could relate to’ I’m so excited to incorporate my welsh roots into a country song. I hope people will connect with it.”

The track is the first third single to drop from Laura Evans’ EP, Running Back To You, which will also be released on Friday 28th August.

Laura Evans is one of the new wave of British country-blues and soul music singer-songwriters whose work does more than echo and emulate the traditions and trends from the US and Nashville -they add homegrown UK talent, traditions and technical expertise into the mix.

The singles that Laura has already released from the EP have been making their mark. The EP’s infectious, debut title track ‘Running Back to You’ charted and went straight to Number One in the UK iTunes Blues chart. The single also entered the US Blues Chart, peaking at Number 43.

Her rocky second single ‘Drag me Back In’ has been getting well-deserved radio play on Planet Rock and earned huge praise BBC Radio Wales and was added to their Welsh A- LIST. It was also added to the popular Spotify editorial playlist ‘Nu-Blue’, curated by Heidi Shenk, alongside US artists like Larkin Poe and Dave Stewart.

As journalist Neil Mach puts it, “her voice always retains an element of granite sincerity — in fact, there’s even a hint of boldness about it — it’s a measure of her inducible brilliance. This is what Laura does best: she brings sweet, warm rhapsody with compelling honesty.”

Laura’s songs have been featured on several American TV shows on CMT. She performed at the C2C ‘Country 2 Country’ music festival at the O2 Arena in London, supported popular UK country act The Shires in concert, and on her last trip to Nashville, Tennessee played at the famous ‘Bluebird Cafe’.

“I’m so excited to share this EP with the world and I’m very proud of these songs,” says Laura, “I’m excited I’m finally making the music I’ve always wanted to make, crossing boundaries between genres, yet still being true to myself.”

Best-known for her soul-style ballads, bootstrap blues and rooted folkways, the EP does show Laura’s range and willingness to step across boundaries. Often compared to Stevie Nicks, ‘Drag me Back In’ shows the lady’s got Bonnie Raitt-style controlled, raw edge and power too.

“Laura Evans is a rising star that’s for sure, who can appeal to both the country and blues markets. Her songs have the appeal to be played on daytime radio with plenty of crossover appeal,” said Get Ready To Rock, in their review of the EP. “Musically she sets her stall out between country and blues, with a lovely soulful vocal that reminds you of Stevie Nicks at times.”

GRTR weren’t the only one to see the Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac vibe… “If you like Fleetwood Mac, check this out,” said All About The Rock, “If you like bluesy, country or soulful music, check this out. Hell, if you like music you should check this out!”
