A woman from Abercynon is set to star in a TV health transformation series, which begins this week.

Ruth Roberts has been selected as one of five leaders of S4C’s popular FFIT Cymru series, which begins on Tuesday 5 April at 9.00pm.

The health programme sees five leaders from across Wales seek to transform their health over eight weeks by following bespoke fitness and food plans, with the help of three experts; personal trainer Rae Carpenter, psychologist Dr Ioan Rees and new this year food expert Beca Lyne-Pirkis.

The experts will share advice and work closely with the leaders on how to keep fit, how to care for mental health and well-being and advise on how to ditch bad habits and in favour of new, healthy habits.

Ruth, who lives in Abercynon with fiancé Alex, is a committee member of the CDF Runners running club, but feels that her weight is holding her back from running herself.

Since turning 40 last September, Ruth says she doesn’t feel like she is living a full life. She hopes the experience will push her to arrange her wedding and choose the perfect dress, and in the future, to have a child.

The other four leaders for this year’s series are:

Bethan Davies, 39, from Merthyr Tydfil; Gafyn Owen, 48, of Ty Croes, Anglesey; Twm Jones, 59, of Llanerchymedd and Wendy Thomas, 58, of Aberystwyth.

Beca Lyne-Pirkis, former Great British Bake-Off semi-finalist, joins the FFIT Cymru team this year and will be creating some new tasty, nutritious recipes for the leaders, which will be available to view and follow on the FFIT Cymru website, s4c.cymru/ffitcymru, as well as the new website and app, Cegin S4C.

Beca said: “As someone who is studying to be a dietician and has a keen interest in nutrition and cooking, the opportunity to be part of the team, create recipes and try to inspire the leaders with food, is fantastic.

“Our job is primarily to try and bring the balance back into the lives of our leaders.

“I just want to try and get our leaders to understand food a little better, and for them to see how putting so many good things in your body can help your health.

“I also want to inspire with different recipes and ideas, to bring that excitement back into cooking and eating.
