A statement ahead of tomorrow’s Roads Review announcement by Welsh Government from Sustrans Cymru Director, Christine Boston:“We hope that Welsh Government will use this opportunity to prioritise more sustainable and environmentally conscious means of travel for everyone in Wales, for our health and our future. Our work in communities across the country has shown that alternative and more sustainable methods of transport – like walking, wheeling, and cycling – can offer people a real alternative to private vehicles, whether you live in an urban area or in rural Wales. Everyone’s transport needs are different, which is why we must try to provide more options for people to make better choices. If we’re serious about meeting the climate crisis challenge, we need to become a society that supports multi-modal transport. If we want people to walk, wheel, or cycle alongside using public transport, we need continued investment in improving infrastructure that supports that.Wales has some of the UK’s worst air pollution rates, our streets and roads are already too congested. Building more roads isn’t the answer. That’s why Sustrans is committed to supporting the work of Welsh Government and our partners to help people be confident in getting out of their cars, to supporting people to choose healthier and more sustainable ways of travelling.”
