BBC Broadcaster, presenter of BBC’s Scrum 5 and writer Phil Steele joined up with World of Words to create a magical day. World of Words i.e. www.worldofwords.education is a non-profit social enterprise that has enhanced literacy and well-being across 20 different South Wales schools at different times since 2009.
The appearance of Phil Steele at Ton Pentre Juniors in the morning had everyone revelling in his presence. A full hall of year 5 and 6 kids plus several staff enjoyed the chat, song plus lots of literacy led interaction. Phil also signed cards for each and every child plus he willingly stayed behind to answer questions.
The afternoon just kept up the momentum as Phil headed to Treorchy Library to lead a session with year 3 and 4 children from Parc Primary. Mrs. Tracy Grenter of Parc joins World of Words for the classes and she was riding on a wave watching the kids in full engagement. The youngsters sang along with the guest and also played some word games while also receiving autographs.
It was a breath-taking a.m. and p.m. performance from Phil and his energy was truly incredible. WOW is ever so grateful to Mr. Steele for spending his valuable time with them and it was a day that will not be forgotten.
However, on this wonderful Wednesday, a star visitor made a positive mark on many young lives. The wit and wisdom shared from this former teacher hit the spot. It took ‘Nerves of Steele’ to maintain the momentum of a lively event of entertainment and learning. Thank you Phil Steele!
