Virgin Media has shown its appreciation for NHS Wales today by unveiling a new supportive wrap on their on-street cabinet outside Tonteg Hospital.

The striking and original design, dedicated to the NHS and created by ShutterMedia, marks a real transformation from the subtle grey box that stood previously. It can be seen outside of the hospital on Church Road, meaning that hospital workers, patients and visitors alike are able to enjoy its bright and colourful design on the way to and from the facility.

Alongside a thank you message dedicated to the health service and key workers, the design also includes the now iconic rainbow design – the newly formed symbol of the NHS – and a reminder about the importance of adhering to social distancing.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Virgin Media has helped the NHS to stay connected, most notably through providing connectivity to NHS Nightingale hospitals; prioritising connections for NHS Trusts and critical care customers; upgrading services for NHS frontline staff customers at no extra cost to help them work remotely; and making sure that visits to NHS websites don’t use customers’ mobile data. Footage of NHS workers also featured in a TV advert released by the operator.

Earlier in the year, NHS ‘Clap for Carers’ applause celebrations helped set an all-time traffic record on Virgin Media’s network. In March, shortly after a Clap for Carers event, the operator reported a sharp rise in upstream traffic when people shared videos with friends and family on social media, leading to an all-time record amount of upstream traffic on their network.

As part of its ‘Project Lightning’ network expansion programme, Virgin Media is also expanding its network in the local area to bring ultrafast services to more homes and businesses.

Michelle Beech, Regional Director at Virgin Media, said:

“Everyone at Virgin Media is proud of the work we’re doing to help the country stay connected at this difficult time. We wanted to recognise and support the incredible NHS staff working to keep us safe every day and hope this tribute brings a smile to the people who are there for us in our time of need.”
