From Rhosneigr to Rhydyfelin; an epic trek to raise funds for Valleys Kids.

Earlier this year, Joe Williams said that he wanted to do something special to raise funds for Valleys Kids and set himself a remarkable challenge: to walk from the north to the south of Wales.

On May 1st this year, Joe will set off from Rhosneigr on Anglesey to walk the 167 miles back to his place of work; Valleys Kids’ Rhydyfelin Community Centre at the bottom of Rhondda Cynon Taff.

Joe said, “Since joining Valleys Kids, I’ve noticed a lot of funding cuts, meaning we aren’t able to provide as many services for people. The community is struggling with this and issues are arising such as isolation and loneliness. I’m not really sporty but I enjoy the outdoors and have the drive to do it to raise money for a good cause. I’ve always wanted to see all of Wales, and this is how I’m going to do it.”

Joe ran a local community group in Merthyr Tydfil that did litter picking and looked after the local community by handing out food. In 2021, to raise money to hire community halls and equipment, he walked from Lands End to John o’Groats in three months and raised £1,200.

The money Joe raises this time will go towards the expansion of provision within Valleys Kids and providing better equipment for community activities.

Joe is hoping for good weather and lots of support and encouragement along the 167 miles as he aims to complete his ambitious challenge within twelve days.
