The Skids were at the heart of the punk scene in Scotland and took their music to London where they were signed by Virgin records. They made four albums and had Top 40 hit singles including Into the Valley, The Saints are Coming, Masquerade, Charade, Circus Games and Working for the Yankee Dollar.

After the cover version of The Saints are Coming by U2 and Green Day the remaining band members reformed and played to large audiences all over the UK including iconic London venues such as The Albert Hall and The Roundhouse as well as Barrowlands in Glasgow. Their recently released album Destination Dusseldorf went to no.1 in the vinyl charts. The most recent Skids lineup includes Richard Jobson, Martin Metcalfe and Fin Wilson (Goodbye Mr Mackenzie), Nick Hernandez and Connor Whyte.

I have been fortunate enough to see The Skids in their early incarnation and in their more recent comeback – and, the energy is still breathtaking. There have been further changes to the line up of late and a new album Destination Dusseldorf maintains the momentum. The Skids keep moving on and this is certainly not nostalgia for this is very much of the now.

The band continue to visit South Wales and it is not always the same old places. There have been shows in Cardiff, Swansea, Brecon and now Aberdare. So make sure that their visit Into the Cynon Valley is met with your attendance.
